John H. Winkle
John Homer Winkle, age 82, of Florence Kentucky passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood, KY. He was born August 15, 1940. He was the beloved son of the late Adelia Winkle (nee Griffith). He was a graduate of Holmes High School, Class of 1958.
John was dearly loved by many. He was a self-made man who worked endlessly to provide for his family and to serve the Lord. Throughout his life, he held several jobs and owned several small businesses. “Winkle Insurance” and “The What Not Shop” were both located in Ludlow, KY for many years. He was a Mason of Colonel Clay Lodge 159 for over 50 years. John was a long-time member of Lakeside Christian Church in Lakeside Park, Kentucky. He later served as an elder at First Christian Church-Sun City Center, Florida where he lived and shared many fond memories with his friends and church family for more than 18 years. As a devoted Christian, he was very involved with his church family and did everything he could to help others embrace the Lord. Whether it was taking communion to the sick, providing a Bible to someone in need, spreading the word of God, praying for others, or making them feel welcome in church, he was a true servant. John’s life was a testament to what strong commitment, hard work, deep passion, unwavering resilience, fearless faith, and unconditional love can achieve. These traits now live on within his family and his legacy will continue for many years to come.
