Villa Hills, Kentucky

John Daniel Kappes, 84, of Villa Hills, KY, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the Madonna Manor Care Center. Born on September 8, 1939, in Columbus, Ohio, John's kind-hearted nature and dedication to others will forever be remembered.

John dedicated his career to serving the banking community starting at First National in Covington then to Citizen Bank for many years.  After providing over 25 years of loyal service to PNC Bank, he joined his wife in retirement in the early 2000s.  He was known for his meticulous work ethic and genuine care for his colleagues and clients. Whether it was his warm smile or friendly conversation, John always made everyone feel valued and heard.

Aside from his career, John had a passion for education. He graduated from Elder High School in 1957 and later earned a bachelor's degree from Thomas More College in 1988.

John's proudest accomplishments extended far beyond his professional and educational achievements. He selflessly volunteered with Pastoral Care at St. Elizabeth Healthcare for an incredible 25 years, offering comfort and support to those in need.  He was helpful to Father Vonlehman with the annual DPAA. Additionally, he provided tax services and grocery shopping assistance as a Passionists Nuns Monastery volunteer.

Faith played a central role in John's life, evident through his involvement in various religious organizations. He faithfully served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Church in Crescent Springs and even held the position of Treasurer for the City of Villa Hills.

Outside of his commitments to the church, John pursued his hobbies with passion. He enjoyed handcrafting rosaries for religious orders throughout Kentucky and even sent them around the world. His attention to detail and dedication resonated with all who received these precious gifts.

John's loving spirit was amplified by the love he shared with his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Mary Ann Kappes. Their children, Johanna (Karl) Chalk, Danny (Sherry) Kappes, Eddy (Tonya) Kappes, Mike (Megan) Kappes; son-in-law, Tony Spence; his brother, Tom (Sandy) Kappes; sister, Mary Ann (Dave) Arnold; 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Beth Spence and parents, John and Mary Elizabeth Kappes.

The legacy of John Daniel Kappes will be etched in the hearts of all who knew him. His kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones and community serve as an inspiration to us all.
