John David Grote

John David Grote, a cherished son, husband, father, and brother, passed away peacefully at his residence on December 8, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on October 2, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio, John was known for his sense of humor, kindhearted nature and unwavering love for his family and beloved dogs.

John enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Retail Manager at Lowes Company, where he was respected by colleagues and customers alike for his dedication and genial demeanor. He had an amazing ability to recognize and care for any plant, flower or tree . He approached each day with humor and a loving spirit, carrying with him a deep appreciation for those around him.

A passionate sports enthusiast, John was an avid supporter of the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, Ohio State University, and the University of Kentucky. His enthusiasm extended beyond sports, as he was a big fan of Dr. Who, further showcasing his diverse interests that colored his life with joy. John also took great pleasure in gardening, having built his own greenhouse, which served as a sanctuary for his passion for nature. Additionally, he was an active member of the Northern Kentucky Hidden Rocks painting group, where he found camaraderie in creativity and connection. Their Facebook page has a large legacy dedicated to him. 

John was a devoted family man, loving his wife of 44 years, Donna Grote, and his children, Nathan (Ashlea) of Hebron, Andrew of Cincinnati , and Rhiannon (Ryan) Burch of Florence, unconditionally. He is survived by a brother Michael (Marty) in Colorado.

He is preceded in death by his cherished son, Justin Grote; brothers, Steven, Jerry, and his parents, George and Rose Grote (nee: Brady).

He often found joy in the companionship of his dogs: Joy, whom he affectionately referred to as his girl; Aurora, his steadfast protector; and Russel, his little buddy. These four-legged friends brought immense happiness to his life and reflected his loving nature.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Stray Animal Adoption Program (SAAP), where John rescued his dogs. (www.adoptastray.com) Also consider painting and hiding a rock in his honor.

There will be a celebration of life on Thursday January 2, 2025 at the Gathering House- Florence Nature Park (7200 Nature Park Drive, Florence KY). Please stop by between 4-8pm and bring a painted rock to hide if you like!

John David Grote's legacy will remain in the hearts of all who knew him, remembered for his gentle spirit, his love of family, and his unwavering kindness. He leaves behind 6 grandchildren and countless memories that will continue to touch the lives of those he loved so dearly.
