Joan E. Simpson, a retired elementary school teacher with a career spanning 40 years, passed away peacefully at her residence on January 24, 2024. She was born on November 15, 1925, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Joan's passion for education and nurturing young minds made her beloved by students and colleagues alike.
Joan's dedication to her profession was evident through her pursuit of higher education. She earned a Master's degree in Elementary Education, which further enriched her teaching methods and inspired young learners. Over the course of her career, she positively impacted countless lives and left an indelible mark on the education system.
Beyond the classroom, Joan dedicated herself to serving the community. She volunteered regularly at St. Elizabeth Hospice Center, providing comfort and support to those in need. Additionally, she was an active member of Sts. Boniface and James Church and Ladies Alter Society, where she contributed her time and talents to various charitable initiatives. Joan also shared her love for literature as a member of the St. Elizabeth Book Club.
Joan was a pillar of strength and compassion within her family as well. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Byron Roosevelt Edmonds (1983) and Dr. James Herbert Simpson (2011); parents, Marcellus, and Agnes (nee Drees) Becker; brothers, Christian, Vincent, William Becker; sisters, Regina Allen, and Katerie “Kate” Setser. Their memories will forever live on in Joan's heart.
Joan is survived by her son, CW5 (RET) Byron C. (Linda) Edmonds of Palmyra, TN; sisters, Agnes Becker of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandson, Byron Gregory (Ronza) Edmonds of Clarksville, TN; and great-granddaughter, Sophia Grace Edmonds.
The funeral services to honor Joan's life will take place on Friday, February 2, 2024. Visitation will be on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 10:00AM until the hour of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM all in Sts. Boniface & James Church, 304 Oak Street, Ludlow, KY 41016.
Interment in Mother of God Cemetery in Latonia, KY.
