It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Colby Micheal Purcell, 23, of Covington, who left this world on March 20, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Born on August 24, 2001, in Florence, Kentucky, Colby was a kind, loving, and funny son and brother who brightened the lives of those around him.
A self-taught mechanic from the young age of 9, Colby possessed an extraordinary talent for fixing anything that came his way, including cars, motorcycles, go-carts, and tractors. He had a need for speed like no other. Everything in his life had to be now and fast. His hands were not only skilled but also reflected a passion for understanding how things worked. Those who knew him admired his ability to tackle any mechanical challenge with enthusiasm and expertise.
Colby’s interests extended beyond mechanics; he loved working out and riding motorcycles, pursuits that complemented his vibrant personality. He was also an animal lover. They flocked to him with excitement when in his presence. His family and friends often remarked on his infectious spirit and sense of humor, which made even the most mundane moments enjoyable.
Colby is survived by his beloved family members: his mother, Nicole Shumate; father, Kelly Purcell and step-mom, Crystal Purcell; sisters, Alexus and Cheyanne Purcell; brothers, Canyon and Corey Purcell and Jared Eggleston; grandmothers, Tina Eads and Kennetha White; and grandfathers, Wayne White and Mike Purcell; his little buddy, Malaya Turner; his niece Embri Purcell; and best friend, Josh Merkel. Each of them carries cherished memories of Colby, who brought joy and laughter into their lives.
He is preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Anthony Eads; great-grandmother, Jacqueline Eads; and great-grandfather, Raymond Boothe
