Mary Jo Walther
Mary Josephine Walther (Mary Jo) 87 of Ft. Myers, Florida, formally a resident of Northern Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. At the time of her death, she was a resident of The Windsor of Cape Coral where she received excellent care the last months of her life.
Mary Jo believed in the importance of education. When the school system in Northern Kentucky discontinued its kindergarten program in 1962, she opened up her own kindergarten in her Edgewood home where she taught the community’s children, including her own, from 1962 to 1970. She also taught swim lessons at Villa Madonna Academy where she served as the high school swim coach.
Mary Jo was active at Brookwood Swim Club where she enjoyed playing tennis and working the swim meets. Later in life, Mary Jo and her husband Robert G. Walther, Sr. (Bob), split their time living at Woodson Bend Resort in Bronston, Kentucky, in the summer and Ft. Myers, Florida in the winter. They golfed together year round and enjoyed spending time with their many friends.
Mary Jo was an excellent piano player and loved to laugh. She was also an avid boater and water skier, passions which she passed on to her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Walther, Sr. (2001). Survivors include her sons, Robert G. Walther, Jr. of Cincinnati, Edward (Beth) M. Walther of Villa Hills; daughters, Shannon (Tim) Murphy of Lakeside Park, Rachel (Ed) Marcotte of Erlanger; sister, Shirley Parker of Rhineyville; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date after the Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted. Ronald B. Jones Home is serving the family. Online condolences to
