He was born at St Elizabeth Hospital North in Covington, KY, on October 8
th
, 1950 to Elmer and Margaret Webster (née Watson). Although he grew up in Ludlow, he graduated from Holmes High School in 1969. He enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school. A back injury caused him to be discharged (Honorably) after 10 years of service, so Doug moved his family back to his hometown of Ludlow. He soon settled his family down in Fort Wright where he resided for over 30 years. During this time, he continued working for the Federal Government, with the Office of Housing and Urban Development in Cincinnati, then as a United States Postal Service Mail Carrier at the Covington Branch on Scott St. He eventually moved over to the USPS Distribution Center on Dalton St in Cincinnati to work as a clerk, where he retired from after 30 years of government employment.
Doug enjoyed horseracing and going to the track, mostly for off-track betting and then playing the slots when the casinos moved in. For several years he had part ownership in a racehorse. He loved shopping and would scour the ads and visit multiple groceries for the best bargains. In the summer of 2019, Doug moved to Yorktown, VA to be closer to his daughter’s family after being diagnosed with mild dementia. His hobbies are certainly what he missed most once the Pandemic began and he never fully understood what was going on in the world outside his home.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Ronald B Jones Funeral Home, 316 Elm St, Ludlow, KY on December 15, 2020. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, services are private to the family. Interment to follow at Highland Cemetery, 2167 Dixie Hwy, Fort Mitchell, KY.
