John A. Darpel

John A. Darpel Jr., MD, 80, of Edgewood, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, father & grandfather.  He worked as an obstetrician and gynecologist with the OB/GYN Specialists of Northern Kentucky formerly known as Stevie, Jacobs and Darpel. John always said “I only deliver the smartest and best looking babies.” He served in the United States Air Force, was a volunteer at Catholic Charities and an active member of St. Pius X Church for 52 years.  John was an avid reader and loved playing cards.  He spent many hours outdoors boating, hunting, fishing or golfing with friends.

John is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Gail Darpel (2017); parents, John A. Darpel (1982) and Regina E. Darpel (1998); brothers, Jim, Frank and John.

Survivors include sons, John (Terri) Darpel, Paul (Cheryl) Darpel, Matt (Julie) Darpel, David (Amy) Darpel; daughters, Amy (Rafael) Torres, Jeanne (Butch) Setters, Annie (Jason) Haines, Katie (David) Noe ; sisters, Dorothy Dietz, Rosemary (Jerry) Sweeney, Joan Haas, Dolores (Joe) Ehlman;  25 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 9:30 AM to the hour of Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM all in St. Pius X Church, 348 Dudley Road, Edgewood, Kentucky 41017.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Catholic Charities, Development Office, 3629 Church Street, Covington, Kentucky 41015; Redwood Rehabilitation Center, 71 Orphanage Road, Ft. Mitchell, KY 41017.

Interment with full military honors will be at the convenience of the family in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright, KY.
