Harry Peeno
Harry R. Peeno, 84, of Ft. Wright, formerly of Ludlow, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.
He retired as a truck driver for the Wiedemann Brewing Co. and then
retired from Ludlow Independent schools where he was a school bus driver for special education children. Harry served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. He attended Bromley Christian Church and was a past member of Ludlow Christian Church and past president of the Ludlow Vets. Harry refereed high school and college basketball and football. He was the past president of the Northern Kentucky Officials Association where he was a charter member since 1965. Harry was in the Northern Kentucky and Ludlow Hall of Fame, past member of Ludlow boosters and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a manager with Buckeye League semi-pro baseball, played semi-pro football with Charlie Tavern (1951) and represented the U.S. Army in Europe in many sports. While in the service, Harry was the third best backstroke swimmer in Europe and broke Europe’s record for the backstroke. He was a great athlete who stayed active until very recently. He was also in the Junior OUAM of Ludlow. Most of all, Harry was a family man who loved family get togethers.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Peeno (1982).
Survivors include his daughters, Vickie (Kim) Comer of Cincinnati, Melodie (Bob) Corbett of Villa Hills; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation is on Friday, July 15, 2016 from 9:30 AM to the hour of service at 11:30 AM all in Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, 316 Elm Street, Ludlow, KY 41016.
Interment in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, KY with military honors.
