Gail Bess (Murray) Darpel, 77, of Edgewood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her devoted family. She was born in Montgomery, WV then moved to Kentucky where she graduated from Villa Madonna Academy and then in 1961 from Mt. Saint Joseph as a Registered Nurse. She worked at Good Samaritan in Cincinnati and the Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis in which she opened the ICU nursery. Gail was a member of St. PIus X Church in Edgewood for 51 years, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and was instrumental implementing the school's computer lab and kindergarten program in addition to various other volunteer jobs at St. Pius X. She also volunteered visiting parishioners in nursing homes and at St. Elizabeth Cancer Care. Gail served as the BOTCE President and was an avid gardener. With all her accomplishments, she considered her only "claim to fame" to be a wife, mother and grandmother.
Gail is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 55 years, John Darpel, MD of Edgewood; sons, John (Terri) Darpel, MD, Paul (Cheryl) Darpel, and Matt (Julie) Darpel all of Edgewood, David (Amy) Darpel of Crescent Springs; daughters, Amy (Rafael) Torres of Villa Hills, Jeanne (Butch) Setters of Walton, Annie (Jason) Haines of Edgewood, Katie (David) Noe of Crescent Springs and 25 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ila Murray; and brother, George William "Bill" Murray.
Visitation is on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 3:30 PM to the hour of Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 6:00 PM all in St. Pius X Church, 348 Dudley Rd, Edgewood, KY 41017.
Family and Friends are invited to Milligan Hall following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Catholic Charities, Development Office, 3629 Church St, Covington KY 41015; Redwood Rehabilitation Center, 71 Orphanage Rd, Ft. Mitchell, KY 41017; or Hospice of the Bluegrass Northern Kentucky, 7388 Turfway Rd, Florence, KY 41042.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright, KY.
